Do I need to be married to adopt?
The law does not treat married and unmarried couples differently when it comes to adoption – every couple will be treated equally when consideration is given to whether they can provide a child with a loving home. Most important will be the availability of evidence that an enduring family relationship exists and that the adoptive child will be offered long-term stability in their new home.

Are there any age restrictions for adoptive parents?
There isn’t an upper age limit for prospective adoptive parents, but those looking to adopt must be at least 21 years of age. Where one of the parties is the child's biological parent, and the other partner is hoping to adopt the biological parent must be at least 18 years old, and the adoptive parent must be at least 21 years old.
If I have other biological children will this be considered as part of my application?
No distinction is made between adoptive parents who already have children and those who don’t. The focus is always on offering adoptive children a loving and stable family, although the presence of other children may be seen as a positive factor in helping the adoptive child settle in their new home.
